Spring Term 2019
During Science Week we have learnt about Healthy Living. We have:
Investigated the effect of exercise on our bodies by testing our pulse rate
Investigated how germs spread using flour
Started an experiment on how important it is to wash your hands
Made exercise videos
Had a visit from Sam from SM Dietetics to teach us about eating a balanced diet
And just for fun...We investigated the strength of an egg.
We have been learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole as part of our history topic. We made a news report about why Mary Seacole wasn't as well known as Florence Nightingale.
We are learning about keeping ourselves safe and we were visited by Emma and Theresa who are some PCSO's. They taught us all about stranger danger and talked to us about what job a PSCO does. We even tried on some uniforms! We have also had a visit from the Kirklees Road Safety Team to teach us how to use the Green Cross Code.
Autumn Term 2018
This half term we are learning about habitats as part of our topic 'The Enchanted Woodland'. We have been reading 'The Bog Baby' so we went down to the woodland to explore different habitats and search for the Bog Baby
For homework, we made our own Bog Babies. Take a look at some of our wonderful creations...
As it's Harvest Time, we have been collecting food donations for the Trussell Trust. In Year 2, we have also been harvesting our own vegetables from the school garden. We made a delicious pumpkin soup. Thank-you Gardening Club for all the hard work they put into making their produce!
In English lessons, we have been learning how to write instructions. Today we made a bird feeder. Here we are hanging them in the trees to encourage birds to visit the school grounds. Keep checking back to see our instructions so you can make your own at home too.
On Friendship Friday, Year 2 decided to have a morning greeting where the children chose whether they would like a hand shake, hug, fist bump or high five as a welcome to the classroom. The children love it!
