Spring Term 2018

Cricket Taster Session

For PE, we have had a visit from All Stars Cricket who played some games with us and taught us some ball skills. Here are some pictures of us enjoying the sessions.

Harry Potter Day

We've had an excellent time celebrating Harry Potter Day.

In Year 2 we have:

  • visited the library and listened to Mrs Barrett reading Harry Potter
  • made chocolate frogs and golden snitches for the cake stall
  • imagined what it would be like to be at Hogwarts
  • made our own pet owl
  • played Quidditch

Thank-you to all the adults who made today possible with some amazing outfits and for your support towards the school library.

Thackray Medical Museum

In Spring, we started off with a spectacular visit to the Thackray Medical Museum. This was to begin our topic on Disasters, Destruction and Diseases. We started off learning about the life of Florence Nightingale and went on a journey to Scutari Hospital where Florence worked as a nurse during the Crimean War. Have a look at the fun we had exploring the museum...

Autumn Term 2018

We had a fantastic time in the woodland recently. We went searching for different habitats and looked at what animals need to survive in their habitat. We also went on the hunt for the elusive Bog Baby and luckily some of us found them. We made Bog Babies from clay, created habitats for them and looked for other wildlife too.

Food and Nutrition

Over the last few weeks we have been investigating how foods are made, where they come from and how to make our own healthy snack. We decided to make smoothies. First we tasted some from the supermarket and decided what we liked and didn't like. Then we asked people what their favourite fruits were so that we could make a smoothie which would be popular. Finally, we wrote our own recipe and made our smoothies. The results were mixed - some flavours worked brilliantly and other fruits weren't great for smoothies. We evaluated our work so we can improve the smoothies if we want to make them at home.

Healthy Living

Mrs Hopkinson, a dietitian,  came in to teach us about nutrition and how to stay healthy. We guessed what some different foods were and then sorted them into the different food groups.

Keeping Fit

As part of our unit on Healthy Living, we have been learning the importance of exercise. We decided to make a keep fit video to help others stay active too. Why don't you have a go?
